Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities
September 9
Creek Mouth Enhancement
Creek mouth restoration to increase accessibility for spawning adult salmonids with the WSP and the Mid-Klamath Watershed Council (MKWK). Without this volunteer and grant-funded work, several miles of pristine upstream habitat would be inaccessible to mature adult fish. Volunteers should meet at 10am at Camp Creek in Orleans. Food and beverages will be offered. For more information contact Brandon Basino at MKWK. 530-627-3202
September 11
Russian Gulch Riparian Zone Restoration Project
Riparian zone health is essential to the survival of salmonid species as it provides cover, limits water contamination, slows water velocity, and filters and collects large amounts of sediment and debris. Volunteers should meet at the Russian Gulch campground and trailhead to the waterfall at 10am. Food and beverages are provided. For more information contact Julie Coombes and Amber Villalobos at 707-964-6190
September 18
Horse Linto Interpretive Trail Enhancement
Horse Linto Trail is an amazing display of stream and salmonid restoration techniques that deserves appropriate maintenance. It is also a valuable environmental education tool that is currently under-utilized. The trail is severely overgrown and poorly marked. Some of the structures in the creek are in need of repair, and parts of the trail are littered with debris. Volunteers should meet at Horse Linto and Cedar Creek in Willow Creek at 8:30am. Food and beverages will be provided. For more information contact Haley Carlson. 530-627-3223
September 25
Shasta River Restoration Project
Join us in Siskiyou County to help provide habitat for juvenile and migrant salmonids. Salmonids in the Shasta River has deteriorated significantly over the decade, and we will create riparian habitat on the upper Shasta River. Our work will improve the water quality and allow for greater access to fish passages. Volunteers should meet at the Nelson Ranch in Yreka at 8am. Food and beverages will be provided. For more information, contact Meiling Roddam and Kristen Gangl at the Department of Fish and Game in Yreka. meiling.roddam@ccc.ca.gov; kristengangl@ccc.ca.gov
October 23
Wood Creek Enhancement
This restoration project will restore tidal hydrology and wildlife habitats for several species of threatened or endangered fish, and will restore and preserve tidal marsh functions on the Northcoast Regional Land Trust Freshwater Farms Reserve. Our contribution will provide 1100 new Willows sprigs along Wood Creek. Volutneers should meet at Freshwater Farms along Myrtle avenue between Arcata and Eureka at 9m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. For more information, contact Alana Bartolai or Jessica Frisk at the Redwood Sciences Lab. 707-845-8062

We will also be doing riparian plantings in the newly constructed off-channel ponds in Seiad. Breakfast, lunch, rafts, and PFDs will be provided.
