Shauna Oster
Bio:
As a youngster, Shauna grew up in and around Portland, Oregon where she enjoyed swimming, building tree forts, fishing for crawfish, and rollerblading. During high school Shauna took up photography, sewing, and dancing as new hobbies. College opened new doors and she became interested in Biology, especially after a summer field experience in Colorado where she researched beavers. During the first few years at Portland Community College, she focused on Chemistry and Biology, hoping for a successful medical career. Shauna transferred to Portland State University where she studied Microbiology and worked at a Cytogenetics lab. Shauna realized something was missing: her love for socializing and being outdoors. During her last year of College, Shauna turned her focus to Geology and taught Science Lab at an elementary school. Once graduated, she spent an exhausting but rewarding summer as a wilderness field instructor at an outdoor intervention program for troubled teens. After a few exhilarating months of unemployment and traveling she was grateful to join WSP, where she could combine her passions: teaching, field biology, and conservation. She hopes to start her own “outdoor adventures: environment and self awareness camp” someday. Shauna now lives in Happy Camp, CA and feels most mindful and happy when hiking along the river, eating turkey, bacon and humus sandwiches, laughing at herself, road tripping with friends, snowboarding with her boyfriend, taking pictures of sunsets, and spending time with her wonderful fellow WSP members.
