Lisa Lee

After going to college in her native Butte County, she first broke into the field of restoration in the year 2003 when she joined the California Conservation Corps and served a year at the beautiful Del Norte Center (which is unfortunately no longer in operation). Ms. Lee served her first Americorps term in 2007 with the Department of Fish and Game in Fortuna. This time around she is serving with the California Conservation Corps (also in Fortuna). Some of her favorite places to go in her off time are to the beach on a sunny day, or hiking in Prairie Creek State Park where she spent some time in the CCC building the very trails that she likes to hike on.

I moved to Humboldt to go to HSU where I studied Wildlife. Graduated in 2006, started working full time. My job before WSP got old really quick. Now I am learning new things and getting many different experiences all the time. Any questions? bleonard@watershedstewards.com

I was born and raised in Guajiquiro, La Paz, Honduras. I am the ninth child in my family. I come from a farming background and grew up among steep hills where I worked in the corn and coffee lands. I always was interested in looking at details in the landscape, especially the rich and colorful soils. After I finished teacher’s college in Honduras, I won a scholarship to study environmental science in the United States. After completing the program, I went back to Honduras and worked for the federal government doing environmental audits. While I was working in Honduras, a Peace Corps volunteer came to my village and we became friends because we had similar professional interests. We ended up marrying, and then I moved to live in Arcata, California. Besides moving to live with my husband, another objective I had in returning to the United States was to continue my schooling. I chose to study Rangeland and Wildland Soil Science at Humboldt State. Because of my strong connection to my family, my husband and I try to go back every year and a half or so and do projects in my community. We are planning to live in Honduras in the not-too-distant future. I joined the Watershed Stewards Project at the beginning of 2008, and so far I have had lots of fun, learned, and met great enthusiastic and energetic people in the program. I love working at the Redwood Sciences Lab in the middle of the forest, where I get to do a variety of tasks.
