WSP Accomplishments

Years 1-15

Since 1994 and through 2009, WSP members have:

  • Inventoried 23,728 miles through stream, riparian and upslope surveys.
  • Surveyed 17,968 stream and watershed miles.
  • Instructed 34,440 students using Real Science curriculum on salmon lifecycles, watershed processes, and best land-use practices.
  • Completed 175,898 hours of community outreach and education, sharing scientifically based salmon and watershed restoration information with 180,262 students and community members.
  • Engaged more than 13,891 community volunteers in service to restore watersheds and have participated in over 148,000 hours of scientific, professional and educational trainings.

In 1995, watershed assessments were limited to half the drainage basins in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. Today, through landowner support for restoration, WSP members have been granted access to private land in three quarters of watersheds from the Oregon border to San Luis Obispo.

The California Conservation Corps and the Department of Fish and Game are fiscal agents/partners of the Watershed Stewards Project.
